Prayag Kumbh Mela is a religious event associated with Hinduism and  is held at the Triveni Sangam, The Ganges, The Yamuna and The Saraswati river in the city of Prayagraj, India. Maha Kumbh Mela is occurs after 12 years and The Puna Maha Kumbh Mela is held every 144 years.
     The Mela is held at fours sacred river sites: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik

What are the key facts about Kumbh Mela?

It is the largest peaceful congregation of pilgrims on the earth during which the participants bathe or take a dip in the holy river.

The congregation takes place at 4 different sites namely:

• At Ujjain, on the banks of the Shipra.
• At Haridwar, on the banks of the Ganga.
• At Nashik, on the banks of the  Godavari.
• At Prayagraj, at the junction of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical invisible Saraswati. 

   Historical Evolution:

The meha kumbh mela, compused by Adi Shankara Charya has its origion in the Puranas, which describe the struggle between Gods and Demons  for the sacred pitcher of nector, in which Lord Vishnu in the form of Mohini saves it from the demons.

It is the believed that bathing at the triveni sangam confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, washes away sins and leads to spiritual liberation, moksha.

Devotional  kirtans ,bhajans and trational dances like Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi at the kumbh mela highlight the themes of spiritual  unity and divine love.
